Maria's films are frequently beautiful, richly textured, and framed with the precision of a fifteenth century painter. Although it is often their sound which buries them under your skin. The moment at which a sequence ends, and begins again, is not an obvious transition. The impression is that of a multiple played out in time, instead of space. And the combined effect, of these repetitions, is not simply to restate each detail as it recurs – but to draw the viewer into a deeper examination of each repeated action. And to feel the weight of that examination modulate their senses towards a deeper emotional response. Maria is fully a composer, with film.

Artist and Filmmaker, Maria Marshall has works in the collections of the Guggenheim Museum and MoMA. Guest Hotels has commissioned Her to do a site specific installation for one of the forgotten corners of The Jones, a Grade II listed hotel in the heart of Queensway.
